These are the results of the fifth challenge on RPGnet, the first one initiated by Gene Freak to design a new roleplaying game in 2 weeks based on a set of ingredients. This challenge had just over a week to do the design in May / June 2009.
Contestants should choose six ingredients from the four categories below. If a contestant wants to choose more ingredients then they are welcome to do so but should indicate on their entry which six they wish to be scored on. You should also indicate your RPGnet username on their entry.
The challenge will start at 7pm GMT 22nd May and end at 7pm GMT on 7th June.
System
* All racial options in the game must be physically non-anthropomorphic and should not include humans or humanoids.
* System uses some form of bidding or auction
* Attributes may not have a direct numeric value
* System uses a wheel in some way
* Teamwork is a core component of the game, with the party's power through teamwork being markedly greater than the sum of its parts
* Every character must have different base stats
* Characters are generated through the use of newspaper clippings
* The Game mechanics must revolve around Fortune Telling. (i.e. tarot cards, casting lots or runes, pendulum reading, etc)
* Includes a system for unconscious Psychic powers
* Elegantly avoids the "death spiral" in combats/conflicts.
* Mechanics use some form of The Rule of Three Fold Return.
Setting
* No one is without a particular item or device, ever.
* Seasons do not vary by the passage of time but are locked to specific geographic locations.
* Society is on the brink of collapse
* The creatures living on the world all have adapted to some type of hostile environment
* War has been replaced by some type of non violent contest
* Giant mechanical spiders are used somehow in the setting.
* The game involves dreamscape/world of dreams in a significant way
* Humans are the enemy.
* Death, Pestilence, Famine, and War are seen as good things.
* The world is folded in upon itself, and many areas occupy the same space separated only by a fourth physical dimension (Or time).
Phrases
For each ingredient choose two phrases from the list and link them together to form a sentence. If you choose more than one ingredient from this category then the phrases should be different from the ones you have already chosen. You can use additional words before, after or between the two lists to create the sentence. Some examples:
“In the Age of Magic the dead come back to life”
“In the final war you must adapt or die”.
“The price of victory was secrets within secrets”
*Age of magic
*Adapt or die
*Might equals right
*Reap what you sow
*Final War
*Price of Victory
*Divine Wrath
*Dead come back
*One King
*wandered off into the Cycle
*History repeats itself
*Everyone died
*Trust no one
*Burn the wicked
*Secrets within secrets
*Lose it and you die
*Nature all over
*Sillhouebirds are singing again
*Avarice Kills
*Stars are fading
*Blood will tell
*Peace in our time
*Watch the skies
*Fate of the mammoths
*Broken reflections
*Hungry dragons
*Ordinary sword
